- Make sure the tape is parallel to the ground and not too tight or too loose.
- Stand naturally and take the measurement without pressing the tape into your skin.
- Note the number in inches or centimeters—this, combined with your underbust measurement, helps determine proper sizing for bras and fitted clothing.
Bust
The bust measurement refers to the circumference around the fullest part of the chest, typically at nipple level. It’s a key measurement for determining clothing sizes, especially for bras, leotards, dresses, jackets, tops.
Waist
The waist measurement is the circumference around the narrowest part of the torso, usually just above the belly button and below the ribcage. It’s important for determining clothing fit, especially for dresses, pants, and skirts. If you cannot find your waist, bending from side to side will help you pinpoint it.
Hip
The hip measurement is taken around the widest part of the hips and buttocks…the biggest part of your bootay! It’s an important measurement for sizing leotards, shorts, pants, skirts, and swimwear.
Sometimes, Chest
It applies to girls, boys just give same measurement for chest/bust.
The under-chest measurement, often called the underbust measurement, is key for finding the right bra or bikini top size. It’s taken around the ribcage, just beneath the breasts, where the band of the garment will sit and provide support. This measurement, combined with the bust circumference, helps determine the correct size for a comfortable and supportive fit.
Girth
Girth measurement is typically used for sizing swimsuits, leotards, and some athletic apparel. It measures the total length around the torso, providing a more comprehensive fit for garments that need full-body proportions. To measure girth accurately:
- Use a flexible measuring tape.
- Start at one shoulder and run the tape down the front of the body, through the crotch, and up the back to the same shoulder to reconnect where where the measuring started from.
- Keep the tape snug but not tight, ensuring it follows the body’s curves naturally.
- Record the measurement in inches or centimeters.
Girth is particularly important in gymnastics and dancewear, as it ensures a proper fit for movement-heavy outfits. If you are stuck & need help, let me know how I can help!
