I’m Lona Smith, a passionate creator with an eye for precision and a love for artistry. Originally from Denmark, I’ve called Southern California home since 1968—a journey that has shaped my approach to design, craftsmanship, and the art of dance costuming.
For years, I’ve poured my expertise into crafting one-of-a-kind dance costumes that blend technical excellence with creative expression. My work isn’t just about fabric and embellishments—it’s about helping performers feel confident, empowered, and stage-ready in every movement.

Sewing since 1968!The Lead-Up to Dance
My journey into the world of costuming started far from a sewing machine. For nearly 35 years, I thrived in the corporate world, wearing many hats—Marketing, Computing, Efficiency Expert, Analyst, and Trainer.
During that time, life brought me marriage and family, adding new depth to my creativity. I married a great guy, and together we raised two wonderful kids—a journey that transformed my sewing from a hobby into something much more.
From Home Decor to Dancewear
What began as sewing for home decor, Hawaiian shirts, and children’s wear evolved into an expertise in knit fabrics when my son was born in 1982. Then, in 1993, everything changed again—my daughter started dance, and suddenly Spandex became my new obsession.
That moment was pivotal. It set the stage for what would become a career devoted to crafting beautiful, performance-ready costumes—designed for movement, comfort, and artistry.

Expanding into Volume Costuming
As my daughter Tracy—a master teacher—opened her own dance studio, the demand for costumes, alterations, props, and accessories grew rapidly. Naturally, I stepped in, not only costuming her students but also my own.
What began as a personal passion transformed into an ongoing creative journey. Sewing costumes allows me to maintain my niche, bringing artistry and precision to every piece I create.
